Greatest Man In History

Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.

Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.

Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.

He had no army, yet kings feared Him.

He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.

He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.

He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.

I feel honored to serve such a Leader who loves us!

If you believe in God and in Jesus Christ His Son send this to all on your
buddy list if not just ignore it.

If you ignore it, just remember that Jesus said.

"If you deny me before man, I will deny you before my Father in Heaven."

JOHN MCCAIN'S REMARKS ABOUT THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!!!

(CHECKED THIS OUT THRU TRUTH AND FICTION, THIS IS TRUE!)

___________________________________________________

In light of the recent appeals court ruling in California, with respect to the Pledge of Allegiance, the following recollection from Senator John McCain is very appropriate:
"The Pledge of Allegiance" - by Senator John McCain

As you may know, I spent five and one half years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. In the early years of our imprisonment, the NVA kept us in solitary confinement or two or three to a cell. In 1971 the NVA moved us from these conditions of isolation into large rooms with as many as 30 to 40 men to a room.

This was, as you can imagine, a wonderful change and was a direct result of the efforts of millions of Americans on behalf of a few hundred POWs 10,000 miles from home.
One of the men who moved into my room was a young man named Mike Christian.
Mike came from a small town near Selma, Alabama. He didn't wear a pair of shoes until he was 13 years old. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. He later earned a commission by going to Officer Training School Then he became a Naval Flight Officer and was shot down and captured in 1967. Mike had a keen and deep appreciation of the opportunities this country and our military provide for people who want to work and want to succeed.

As part of the change in treatment, the Vietnamese allowed some prisoners to receive packages from home. In some of these packages were handkerchiefs, scarves and other items of clothing.
Mike got himself a bamboo needle. Over a period of a couple of months, he created an American flag and sewed on the inside of his shirt.
Every afternoon, before we had a bowl of soup, we would hang Mike's shirt on the wall of the cell and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

I know the Pledge of Allegiance may not seem the most important part of our day now, but I can assure you that in that stark cell it was indeed the most important and meaningful event.
One day the Vietnamese searched our cell, as they did periodically, and discovered Mike's shirt with the flag sewn inside, and removed it.

That evening they returned, opened the door of the cell, and for the benefit of all of us, beat Mike Christian severely for the next couple of hours. Then, they opened the door of the cell and threw him in. We cleaned him up as well as we could.

The cell in which we lived had a concrete slab in the middle on which we slept. Four naked light bulbs hung in each corner of the room.

As I said, we tried to clean up Mike as well as we could. After the excitement died down, I looked in the corner of the room, and sitting there beneath that dim light bulb with a piece of red cloth, another shirt and his bamboo needle, was my friend, Mike Christian. He was sitting there with his eyes almost shut from the beating he had received, making another American flag. He was not making the flag because it made Mike Christian feel better. He was making that flag because he knew how important it was to us to be able to Pledge our allegiance to our flag and country.

So the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you must never forget the sacrifice and courage that thousands of Americans have made to build our nation and promote freedom around the world.
You must remember our duty, our honor, and our country

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Security - Backing Up Your Important Data

This is the first in a series of articles on security issues. This month, we're focusing on safe, off-site backups of your important data. The evening news has daily reminders of natural disasters, fires, computer viruses, theft, and other threats that could happen to almost anyone. We don't like to think about it, but what would happen to all your important information on your computer if any of those things were to happen?

Globalink has several different options for backing up your critical data at a secure off-site location, depending on whether you want automatic backups, or on-demand backups, how much space you'll need, etc. We work to insure the safety of your data, using encrypting and the most secure webhosting facilities available. Combating Spam - Helpful Hints to Save Your Time

It's estimated that over 90% of all emails are spam. Although we all hoped those anti-spam laws might help, one quick look at your inbox shows that they didn't have much effect.

So, what can you do to reduce your spam problem? We have some tips on our “Email Tips” page on our website that can help explain several steps you can take, including using filters in your email software to separate out mail from different kinds of senders so that it goes to different inbox locations.

A great option available to Globalink web hosting customers is the Spam Assassin program that we can run at your request (no extra charge). Spam Assassin can either be set to delete all suspected spam, or to filter all of it into a junk folder that you can check from time to time, to make sure that nothing that you actually wanted got filtered out. If you'd like to find out more, please email us at support@iglobalink.net, and we'll be happy to help you set it up.

For more tips on how to avoid spam see the FTC's site, www.ftc.gov/spam. For tips on avoiding online scams, please see: www.onguardonline.gov.

Keeping Your Website Up-to-Date with Blogs

It’s becoming more and more important to keep your website as current and relevant as possible. For one, the search engines are giving more and more consideration to new material when they figure their rankings, and Google looks very closely at the words on the pages. Adding new information on a regular basis is necessary these days to maintain good rankings in the major search engines.

Of course, you’re more likely to keep visitors coming back to your website again and again if there’s nearly always something new to look at. The more valuable a tool your website is to your customers, the more valuable your business is to them, too. If your website is the best tool for some kind of information they’re looking for, you will be the ones they contact when they’re ready to buy.

All that said, we all know it isn’t easy to constantly think of interesting new information to post on our websites. One great solution is to use blogs. (If you're not familiar with blogs, please see our article Blogs and Web Marketing on our website, or see a good online encyclopedia explanation by going to www.wikipedia.org and doing a search for blogs.) Blogs are one of the fastest-growing functions on the web, as more and more people are interested in adding their two-cents worth when they look at information online. You can post short articles of interest, and people can reply and ask questions. It all adds up to a lot of new content that’s interesting, fresh, and personalized, with minimal time investment on your part.

One benefit of being a Globalink webhosting customer is that space for blogs is one of the basic benefits of your hosting package. We can also help you set everything up so that it will look like you want it to, and help you with ideas for what kind of a blog to use to attract the kind of visitors you want to come to your site, as part of our marketing services. (In- depth set-up and marketing advice would require a nominal fee, although picking our brains and bumming questions is free as always;) ) For more information, please view our Blogs page, linkable from our Web Marketing page on www.iglobalink.net.

The Day Christ Died

One of the most common icons of the 21st century is still the crucifix. Worn for many different reasons, whether it be faith, style or keepsake, and usually made of gold or silver, many of us have grown callous to its horror.

The gospel writers do not help us very much on this point because crucifixion and scourging were so common during their lifetime that they apparently considered a detailed description unnecessary. So we have only the concise words of the evangelists: “Pilate, having scourged Jesus, delivered Him to them to be crucified – and they crucified Him.”

What is crucifixion? Torture and execution by fixation to a cross. Apparently, the first known practice of crucifixion was by the Persians. Alexander the Great broght it back to the Mediterranean world, from whom the Romans learned the practice and rapidly developed a very high degree of skill and efficiency at it.

Without any historical or biblical proof, Medieval and Renaissance painters have given us our picture of Christ carrying the entire cross. But the upright post was generally fixed permanently in the ground at the site of execution and the condemned man was forced to carry the cross portion, weighing about 110 pounds, from the prison to the place of execution.

What happened during Jesus' crucifixion?

Arrest: in the middle of the night, after being betrayed by Judas, Jesus was brought before the Sanhedrin (Jewish Council) and Caiphus, the High Priest. It is here that the first trauma is inflicted. A soldier struck Jesus across the face for remaining silent when Caiphus questioned Him. The palace guards then blindfolded Him and mockingly taunted Him to identify them as they each passed by, spat on Him and struck Him in the face.

Early Morning: battered an bruised , dehydrated and exhausted from a sleepless night, Jesus is taken across Jerusalem to Pontius Pilate, the Procurator of Judea. After being passed off to Herod Antipas, the Tetrach of Judea, he was promptly returned to Pilate. It was then, in response to the cries of the mob - some of which would have been the very people He taught and fed - that Pilate ordered Barrabas released and condemned Jesus to scourging (whipping) and crucifixion.

Scourging: After being stripped of His clothing, Jesus’ hands were tied to a post above His head. The Roman Legionnaire then stepped forward with the flagrum (or flagellum) in his hand. This is a short whip consisting of several heavy, leather thongs with two small balls of lead attached near the ends of each. The heavy whip is brought down with full force again and again across Jesus’ shoulders, back, and legs.

At first the thongs cut through the skin only. Then, as the blows continue, they cut deeper into the subcutaneous tissues, producing first an oozing blood from the capillaries and veins of the skin, and finally spurting arterial bleeding from vessels in the underlying muscles. At this point the Prisoner can only wonder when the beating will come to an end...

The small balls of lead first produce large, deep bruises which are broken open by subsequent blows. Finally the skin of the back is hanging in long ribbons and the entire area is an unrecognizable mass of torn, bleeding tissue. When it is determined by the centurion in charge that the prisoner is near death, the beating is finally halted.

King of the Jews: the half-fainting Jesus is then untied and allowed to slump to the stone pavement, wet with His own blood. The Roman soldiers see a great joke in this provincial Jew claiming to be a king. They throw a robe across His shoulders and place a stick in His hand for a sceptre. They still need a crown to make their travesty complete. Flexible branches covered with long thorns (commonly used in bundles for firewood) are plaited into the shape of a crown and this is then pressed into His scalp. Again there is copious bleeding, the scalp being one of the most vascular areas of the body.

After mocking Him and striking Him across the face, the soldiers take the stick from His hand and strike Him across the heads, driving the thorns deeper into His scalp. Finally, they tire of their sadistic sport and the robe is torn from His back. Already having adhered to the clots of blood and serum in the wounds, its removal causes excruciating pain just as in the careless removal of a surgical bandage, and almost as though He were again being whipped the wounds once more begin to bleed.

The walk to Golgotha: the heavy cross section (not the entire cross) is tied to His bloody shoulders, and the procession of the condemned Christ begins its slow journey along the Via Dolorosa. In spite of His efforts to walk erect, the weight of the heavy wooden beam, together with the shock produced by copious blood loss, is too much. He stumbles and falls. The rough wood of the beam gouges into the lacerated skin and muscles of the shoulders. He tries to rise… the weight is just too much.

The centurion, anxious to get on with the crucifixion, selects a stalwart North African onlooker, Simon of Cyrene, to carry the cross. Jesus follows, still bleeding and sweating the cold, clammy sweat of shock, until the 650 yard journey to Golgotha is completed.

Jesus' Crucifixion: Jesus is again stripped of all clothing – not even a loin cloth (contrary to images depicted in artists' paintings). Simon is ordered to place the cross on the ground and Jesus is quickly thrown backward with His torn shoulders against the wood. The legionnaire feels for the depression at the front of the wrist. He drives a heavy, square, wrought-iron nail through the wrist and deep into the wood. To comment on the shout Jesus must have released is too much to bare.

Quickly, he moves to the other side and repeats the action being careful not to pull the arms too tightly, but to allow some movement. The cross portion is now hoisted to the upright pillar where it fits into a groove near the top.

Jesus left foot is now pressed backward against the right foot, and with both feet extended, toes down, a nail is driven through the arch of each, leaving the knees moderately flexed. The Victim is now crucified. To make matters worse, the Victim is mocked by His executioners as well as some of the religious onlookers in the gathering throng.

As He slowly sags down with more weight on the nails in His wrists, excruciating pain shoots along the fingers and up the arms to explode in the brain – the nails in the wrist are putting pressure on the median nerves. As He pushes Himself upward to avoid the stretching torment, He places His full weight on the nail through His feet. Again there is searing agony of the nail tearing through the nerves between the metatarsal bones of the feet.

At this point, as the arms fatigue, great waves of cramps sweep over the muscles, knotting them in deep, relentless, throbbing pain. With these cramps comes the abiility to push Himself upward. Hanging by His arms, the pectoral muscles are paralyzed and the intercostals muscles are unable to act. Air can be drawn into the lungs, but cannot be exhaled. Jesus fights to raise Himself in order to get even one short breath. Finally carbon dioxide builds up in the lungs and in the blood stream and the cramps partially subside. Spasmodically, He is able to push Himself upward to exhale and bring in the life-giving oxygen. It was undoubtedly during these periods of fighting for air that Jesus uttered the seven short sentences which are recorded.

The Death of Jesus: hours of this limitless pain, cycles of twisting, joint-rending cramps, intermittent partial asphyxiation, searing pain where tissue is torn from His lacerated back as He moves up and down against the rough timber in order to take a breath.

Then another agony begins. A terrible crushing pain deep in the chest as the pericardium slowly fills with serum and begins to compress the heart. It is almost over. The loss of tissue fluids has reached a critical level; the compressed heart is struggling to pump heavy, thick, sluggish blood into the tissues; the tortured lungs are making frantic efforts to gasp in small gulps of air. The markedly dehydrated tissues send their flood of stimuli to the brain.

A sponge soaked in posca, the cheap, sour wine which is the staple drink of the Roman legionnaires, is lifted to His lips. He apparently does not take any of the liquid. The body has reached its limit. This realization brings out His sixth words, possibly little more than a tortured whisper, “It is finished.” His mission of atonement has been completed. Finally, He can allow His body to die. With one last surge of strength, He once again presses His torn feet against the nail, and straightens His legs, takes a deeper breath, and utters His last cry, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit.”

We have had our glimpse at what Christ went through – a terrible sight, and more than enough to leave us depressed and despondent.

Remember, this was all done willingly. Christ offered up Himself for the sins of the world – and more particularly for you – that through His sacrifice we might know life.

"Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again." (John 10:17).

Emmanuel Christian Center

Reaching out
Salina church offers weekly free meal and program to public
By APRIL MIDDLETON

Lisa Bailey Salina, helps her daughter Julieonna, 2, with her dinner Saturday during Saturday Night Alive at Emmanuel Christian Center. The church offers free meals and a program to the public every Saturday evening.

Harley Farrar always knows there’s something for him to do Saturday night.

Four blocks from his home, a slew of volunteers are working to prepare a meal for him and anyone else who shows up.

“It’s a real delicious dinner each time I come,” Farrar said.

Farrar doesn’t remember how he heard about the Saturday Night Alive program at Emmanuel Christian Center, 1325 E. Cloud, but he’s been attending for at least a month.

Usually, his wife comes with him, and the two have dinner together and stay for a service afterward.

This Saturday, though, Farrar ate his meal, got a to-go box for his wife and left.

“She just had surgery and she wasn’t feeling up for it,” Farrar said. “I’m going to take her some food. We’re real glad they do this.”

The church started offering Saturday Night Alive about 18 months ago. It is just beginning to publicly push the program, though.

“We are wanting to find a way to get to more people,” said Bryan Hurlbut, administrator of Saturday Night Alive and a member of the church congregation.

The church has put up billboards and signs throughout the community and will continue to add some, Hurlbut said.

“There is no gimmick involved. It’s a free meal, just help yourself. We don’t expect them to stay and clean the church,” Hurlbut said. “They don’t even have to stay for the service. We just want them to get a good meal and enjoy the fellowship.”

Dinner is served each Saturday at 6 p.m. The service is at 7 p.m.

Church volunteers start preparing a hot meal late in the afternoon. By about 5 p.m., busses start making the rounds to bring people to the church who don’t have transportation.

Hurlbut said there are about 16 stops on the bus route right now, including private residences, the Salina rescue Mission and the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas.

Generally, 100 to 120 people attend dinner each week. Hurlbut said they could easily handle 350, though. Any food that isn’t used is boxed and sent home with people or stored at the church just in case someone finds themselves unable to get a meal later during the week.

A staff of about 40 volunteers is on hand each Saturday to cook, set up, clean and run the busses.

“We feel like we know how to do this now, and we have all the kinks worked out,” Hurlbut said. “I know there are people who could use this.”

The idea for the weekly program grew out of a staff meeting at the church.

Hurlbut said they were trying to think of a way to be more available for the community.

He said there are many people who can’t afford to prepare themselves or their children a nutritious, warm meal every night. Others could use a break from cooking and cleaning.

And some of the elderly population rarely get out of their homes.

A free meal serves all of those people.

“We are not a rich congregation by any means, but we have a wealth of good people who are willing to help out,” Hurlbut said. “What we find is that are some people who don’t have a lot of connections in the community. This gives them a chance to make some relationships and get of their homes.”

Linda Henningsen, who is in charge of the food for Saturday Night Alive, said there are several menus they use.

This particular Saturday night, dinner was turkey sandwiches, baked means, salad and lots of different desserts to choice from. Fried chicken is on the menu next week.

“I really try to make sure it’s a good balanced meal. Not junk,” Henningsen said. “For some people, this might be the only good meal they get.”

Lisa Bailey said she loves that meals are nutritious.

She attends each Saturday night with her four young girls. Before they discovered the program, they didn’t attend church, she said.

“We like it here,” Bailey said.

Each Saturday, they have dinner and stay for the service. Bailey said she has now started working in the church’s nursery on Sunday.

“It’s been good for us,” she said. “The food is always good and the pastor (Loren Houltberg) is really good.”
